Having joined the Classics Club, I realised that a few other readers besides me have The Color Purple on their reading lists.* That’s why I thought it would be a nice idea to have a group read of that novel to get discussions going. Of course you can also join in if you’re not taking part in the Classics Club!
I’ve decided to do the group read in May. The rules and calendar are really simple:
- 1 May, I will open with a quick announcement post listing all the blogs that are taking part.
- Throughout May, everyone reads the novel at their own pace. It’s not too long, so I hope one month will be enough for everyone (including myself!)
- 31 May, I will post my own thoughts, as well as a roundup post linking to all the other participants in the group read.
- Late joiners are welcome any time, as long as you can post your thoughts by the end of May.
OK? OK! The more the merrier – I hope you decide to join!
Please leave your name and blog in the comments if you might be interested or you already know you’ll be there. Thanks!
* Apologies if I’ve missed anyone! Please do leave your blog link in the comments if you also have The Color Purple on your list.

I think this sounds like a great idea! I know I need to read it this year and putting it in a specific month works for me. I’ll participate! I blog over at The Oddness of Moving Things.

Oh, I don’t think that will work this spring. I have too many other things already planned. Maybe another time… Thanks for the invite, though. (And if I find I have more time than expected, I will let you know.)

Aw, sorry it’s not working out for you this time! I hope you enjoy the discussion anyway!

That sounds like a great read! I’ll start in May with you.

I’m in. I’m looking forward to the discussions. I was planning some sort of African-American reading project as I have so many books on the pile.

Great to have you guys on board – I’m looking forward to the discussions too! 🙂

Hello! I have read The Color Purple before, but I’m of the firm belief that you can’t read it too many times, so I’d love to take part 🙂

Welcome Laura! For me it’s also a re-read (I think it might even be my third time already) – but you’re absolutely right, it can’t be read too many times 😉

Hi. I have found my way here via Caroline and would love to read along-I read this maybe 15 years ago and think it is time for a reread. Also I am reading diaries at the moment and a fictionalized diary would work in well with my project. Thanks!

Welcome Danielle! Yes, it does sound like The Color Purple fits in nicely with your project.

It’s a long time since I read The Color Purple and it would be good to see if my reaction has changed now I’m a little older, so I’d love to read along.

Awesome! I forgot to put this on my list, but it is on by TBR pile, so why not tackle it with you guys?

Made my way here via the Classics Club, and I am totally on board for this activity – so much so that now I have one more reason to look forward to May!

Definitely in. At least, as long as I can borrow the book from the library at that time (or perhaps a friend).

Count me in! This book is in my The Classics Club list too. Fortunately, my friend got the copy which I can borrow for this readalong (there won’t be enough time for ordering online). So, look forward to the 1st of May! Yayyy…
